It has been over a week since the Big Neck Fest 2014 in Buffalo, NY and I think it is time to review.  Before we dive into Day 1 I want to extend my thanks out to Malik Von Saint who set all of this up.  Without him, Buffalo would have been without this festival for another few years.  He organized the nights, took care of the door, governed the money, and got those bands rolling on time (no small feat). So again THANKS MALIK!

Let’s start with Day 1, Thursday June 12...

Jack Jimmy Hoodlum demos on Iphone App

I put up the Jack Jimmy Hoodlums demo on the IPhone App.  Download it from the store for FREE. Search Big Neck.

Over the years, since I put the Jack Jimmy Hoodlums song Loose Power number one on the Pain in the Big Neck Compilation CD, everyone has been asking who are those guys?  Where did they come from?  Why has there been no more from them?  Are there more recordings?

Here is the short version:

Over the years, since I put the Jack Jimmy Hoodlums song Loose Power number one on the Pain in the Big Neck Compilation CD, everyone has been asking who are those guys?  Where did they come from?  Why has there been no more from them?  Are there more recordings?

Here is the short version:

You may have a little history of the Jack Jimmy Hoodlums from the History of Big Neck.  Basically the band consisted of Sean Garrow, Rob (who was the original bassist for the band Lollipop on Amp Rep), and honestly I forgot who the drummer was.  Hopefully Sean will read this and update me on their history so we can put into the History portion of the website.

They were at one time the premier punk rock band in Buffalo, NY right behind the Baseball Furies.  I remember every band who was big in town or coming through town would ask to play with the Jack Jimmy Hoodlums.  Sean would always play in these tight pink pants and chew gum while he played.  Rob always wore these silver sequined pants that I thought were way too tight to ever fit on any man.  These guys would tear up a stage with the best hook filled punk rock in Buffalo.

They were originally slated to be the first release on Big Neck Records, a split with the Blowtops.  The Hoodlums went into the studio and cranked out 8 classic songs.  They immediately gave me a copy.  Continued to tear up the Buffalo scene, but then they decided to break up.  I remember Sean wanting to move out of Buffalo.  Rob at the time was working for the city in parking violations (he used to sneak up on my car at Sanctuary and leave fake tickets for $1,000,000) and I think he wanted to lead a lifestyle outside of rock n roll.

I was filled with great sadness at learning of their demise.  Big Neck moved the first single to an all Blowtops single.  I always loved the Jack Jimmy Hoodlums stuff so when I finally had a chance to release part of of it, I did on the compilation.  I will still attest to this day, Loose Power is one of the most kick ass songs to ever come out of Buffalo.
