Ok, so I had the band name and the record title reversed for a little while before coming to my senses. The Big Neck label outta Northern, VA (ie: the DC area) has been releasing some real righteous stuff as of late and I’m finally beginning to take notice. Take this quartet, for instance. Sal, Mike, Curt and Nathan play these 14 songs as if their life depended on it (who knows, maybe beer and pizza was promised to them at the end of the recording session). They recorded with Jim Diamond at Ghetto Recorders and that dude has a talent of getting the best out of bands. These guys go right for the jugular on the opening tune “Love Your Guns” and don’t take a breath until the final cut, “Let’s Get Hurt.” Of the twelve songs in between a few of my favorites include “Soupline for Annihilation,” “Not Another Day,” “Lawyer Up” and “Intensity in Tent Cities” (ha ha ha ha ). If you dig other howlers like New Bomb Turks or Electric Frankenstein (Jay Reatard, too) then trust me, you’ll be ok with this.

2014 Releases - Fire Retarded

Next on our list of 2014 excitement is the band Fire RetardedBobby Hussy from The Hussy has always proclaimed that he is a punk rocker underneath all of the Hussy's psych filled garage rock.  To the point that he claims to have been raised on the Punk Rock of Big Neck Records from a wee age.  Well he saw Fire Retarded play very early in their career and decided on the spot that he needed to be in the band.  That night they went from a 3 piece to a 4 piece with Bobby on guitar.

Bobby always wanted to release a record on Big Neck, but he didn't want it to be a psych rock record, he wanted to have a Big Neck release that was a real 'punk rock scorcher'. Well Fire Retarded was about to hit the studio when we called to find out if Bobby was ready to make his punk rock scorcher.  Literally a couple days later Bobby was sending me mixes of Fire Retarded's new record "Scroggz Manor."

It was amazing, 11 tracks of punk rock greatness that I have not heard in some time.  When Bobby said scorcher he was not kidding.  These songs blasted by in minutes with tough guitars, killer vocals, and hooks a plenty.  I have not stopped listening to this record since he sent it over.  It will be on the shelves for Record Store Day.  Line up to grab your copy.

Impose Magazine did a great article on the record and the first single from the record here: http://www.imposemagazine.com/bytes/fire-retarded-meat-stairs

Fire Retarded's Facebook bio: Started in the summer of 2012, featuring members of Giant People, The New Years Gang and The Hussy. Fire Retarded plays loud garage-punk.
