Trailer Park Tornados
"Heroes of the Hopeless" |
Buffalo is not a cheerful town and
who can blame them. First off it snows more in a month
than it does the whole year where I live in southeastern
Michigan (and trust me...it's snows quite a bit here.)
Then there's it's most famous former residents Rick
James and OJ Simpson. Yeah! There's two good role models
for ya, huh? Let's also not forget that the "ladies"
are also rarely seen at the Rock-n-Roll shows there.
Shit! It gives anyone a reason to be pissed off and
do the Trailer Park Tornados sound flat out full of
rage. Mean and nasty and lashing out at anyone that
get's within the rach of their clutches. This record
is LOUD. Close your eyes and you can see the singer's
veins bulging to the point where they might bust as
he howls about heroin and Canoli girls over a huge bog
of vermin infested distortion. The doctors specializing
in hearing problems probably make a killing the day
after these guys and fellow locals the Baseball Furies
play a show together as the bartenders curses them to
the lowest hell while picking up broken glass and scrubbing
bloodstains off the stage. - Smashing Transistors

Man oh man, my ears ain't never been
this brutally roughed-up!! TPT brazenly unleash a loud,
amped out cacophony of trashy, barroom-brawlin' rock-n-roll
madness that's undeniably beastly and primal. They're
sonically similar to The Hot Pockets, Big Boys, The
Bulemic, and The Daylight Lovers - only sloppier, grittier,
and more aggressive! Ear mangling musical mayhem like
this is almost always guarnteed to crack my skull wide
open, flip my brain upside down, and them make me commit
unspeakable acts of drunken debauchery. Waaaaaaaaaah-hooo,
that's just how I like it! - Razorcake

It's on Big Neck records, so you know
it's gotta be some manic lo-fi rock 'n roll. This band
also gets my vote for best band name of the week. The
song "Chinese White", although some may say
it's a little too similar to the Ramones/Thunders classic
"Chinese Rock", is still the best song about
doing heroin since the Queers wrote "We'd Have
a Riot Doing Heroin", and it's the best song on
the 7". - WSUM

Four songs here and man, is this some
screamin' stuff! This is one of the latest blasts from
the prolific Buffalo garage punk scene and the excellent
Big Neck label: no-fi, don't-wanna-be-a-rockstar ragin'
that charges straight ahead full speed through all 4
songs. Loud fast rules, baby!! - Head In a Milk

This record is so fucked sounding
that I checked to see if my needle was shot. It was,
so I changed it..and the record got fucked-er!!! - Rocktober

Noisy garage punk from Buffalo, NEW
YOOORK. The recording is really trashed out, or just
live. The TPT’s, who can’t spell tornadoes,
are a sloppy, snarled pile of guitars and back beats.
Reminds me of ’86 hardcore punk without the macho
attitude. Not bad… - Blankgeneration

File this under lo-fi punk/garage/rock'n'roll/
or whatever Greg Lowry calls it nowadays. Sounds sort
of like the PROBLEMATICS which makes me think that the
PROBLEMATICS were never that great. - Horizontal

Filth, Fuzzy and fucked up. Sends
a fire through yer ass like bad Indian food. Unholy
lyrical subject matter, and I get the feeling they're
real ugly too. A real complete package. Someone's got
to preserve the MENTORS honor. - Maximum Rock'n'Roll

The Trailer Park Tornados' "Hero's
of the Hopeless" 7" ep is the latest gem from
Big Neck Records. This is raw, fast rock 'n roll the
way it should be played. The ep starts off blazing with
"Canoli Girl." It's full of snarling vocals,
growling guitars and feedback. I'm not sure if it's
about a girl who likes Italian pastries, puts up a hard
exterior buts a softie on the inside or a girl who works
in a bakery but it sure does rock. Next up is straight-up
rocker "Chinese White." It's subject is second
in the unholy trinity of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll.
It starts out with a fantastic lead and a grunt leads
into a cool riff. The chorus goes, "Sniff it, eat
it, shoot it, boot it. I'm hooked on Chinese White."
It's the best song on the record. "(She's a) Martyr"
is classic punk rock. It starts off with a shriek of
feedback, a rumbling bass line, then kicks into high
geer. The chorus is a shout out "She's a martyr,
martyr, martyr, martyr." "X" end the
disk in cool fashion. It starts out as a fast and furious
punk rocker, then slows down and has a cool lead then
finishes with the same way it started. What is "X"
about? Beats the shit out of me but I was beating my
head against the wall to this one. I'm not sure now
Big Neck keeps coming up with cool bands but they do.
You should check out the The Trailer Park Tornados.

Four loud and obnoxious blasts of
crude rock and roll with strangulated vocals, feedback
and more attitude than a drunk soccer fan. The band
tears through four songs, "Canoli Girl," "Chinese
White," "(She's A) Martyr," and "X"
with varying degrees of urgency and/or heavy handed
plod. The band is from New York and, though punk in
general tone, are not too far removed from some form
of mondo destructo metal madness. Not for the SQUEAMISH.
